2009-2010 WINTER IN REVIEW

As each sunny day passes it appears that snowy weather is all but behind us for this winter. At TSI we are already looking ahead to next winter. As part of that process we have been reviewing this past winter and decided to share our thoughts on the past winter and what lies ahead.

The Winter That Was

For the third winter in a row Chicago experienced 50+ inches of snowfall. The last time we experienced three winters with over 50 inches of snow was in the 1970s. The winter started off with frequent, but minimal snowfalls throughout the first half of December. By Christmas weekend a powerful snowstorm had dropped between 5 and 12 inches of snow. Another 5-12” fell in early January, followed by frequent yet minimal snowfalls throughout the remainder of January and into early February.

People fooled by the small snow events that characterized the second half of January and early February were brutally reminded that we were still in the heart of winter when a major storm dropped over a foot of snow on February 9th and 10th. Anything after this storm would be considered a piece of cake to the winter-weary residents of Northeast Illinois, however, there were two more significant snowfalls on the 22nd and 25th that both left 2-5” in their wake.

March’s quiet and warmer weather was briefly interrupted by a day-long rain/snow mix that technically dropped up to 2” in the city proper, but most of that was on grassy and elevated surfaces and quickly melted the following day.

TSI Focuses On Customer Satisfaction

Throughout the busy winter we kept our focus on keeping our customers happy and serviced them appropriately. Keeping in mind that our clients were facing their third winter in a row that stretched their snow removal budgets, we custom-fit our response levels to meet the individual needs of our customers. By keeping our clients up to date on weather trends and dispatch plans—and by sending out multiple customer satisfaction surveys—we were able to maintain our impeccable customer service track record that we pride ourselves on.

Looking Ahead

Specializing in snow all year means that the staff of TSI is already working on getting prepared for next season. We have already begun researching equipment and facility upgrades and reaching out to current and potential new clients and discussing their snow removal needs for next winter. Throughout the off-season we will continue to educate ourselves in the latest techniques and equipment available to snow removal specialists, including our continued integration of liquid de-icing solutions. We will analyze costs to ensure we are able to offer the best pricing to all our current and potential future clients.

Has Your Snow Removal Provider Met Your Needs?

Spring is as good of a time as any, if not the best time, to evaluate your snow removal needs. Was your current provider reliable with their service? Was the quality what you expected? Were their billing practices fair?

At TSI we specialize in large, zero-tolerance clients, helping to minimize risk and liability from slip and falls. Our staff has been trained in proper plowing and de-icing techniques to minimize risk, and be environmentally friendly at the same time. Click here to request a proposal or call us at 773-278-8467.
